What is A. J. STEIN

Yes, we make it possible for a brand new baby grand piano, traditionally built and with the best quality materials to be available to you for a price that is well below that which anyone will be able to offer you.

To give you some idea of what we're about, we are formally qualified and experienced piano tuners and restorers;  we have spent many hours, months and years of time importing rebuilding and sourcing of the best materials avaiable for customer projects. We only ever include genuine parts for pianos such as Steinway, Bluthner, Bosendorfer and many others all the way down to Yamaha.  During this time (more than 20 years) we began to uncover many hidden truths about the real origins of modern piano materials and manufacture.

We were surprised to learn that the vast majority of piano production is, in fact in China and south East Asia and for very good reason. This is not just because it is cheaper to produce pianos there; primarily the Chinese home market for their own pianos, is far greater than many world countries put together.  In fact in excess of 380,000 pianos are produced a year which is more than 80% of the worlds piano production.  Materials and techniques have much improved there, over the past 30 years. So much so that some of the top manufacturers have a good deal of their piano models produced there and at a cost well below that of their own factories in 'Europe and the US'. There has been a recent drive by these companies investing millions in new and updating production facilities in Asia.
Rather than spelling a decline in quality for these brands, the actual effect has been quite the opposite. Thanks to the guidance of these manufacturers, there has been a vast improvement in piano quality coming out of China spreading across to other brand names from the same and sister factories.  Steinway Boston & Essex, Bluthner, Bechstein, Kawai, Yamaha and many other trusted brands have many of their pianos made at these factories.  Whilst they do try to keep this 'O.E.M.' style arrangement secret, this is far from a detriment to their brands but more of a compliment to the China Piano industry who have proved more innovative than their European teachers.

As a direct result of this arrangement we have had to spend a good deal of time in China with these factories ourselves.  The result? We now OEM produce pianos with our own sourced materials. We proudly labelled ours A J Stein after the first manufacturer of the piano.  We provide our materials sourced from the 'US' for strings ('Mapes' for Steinway), Swiss spruce for soundboards ('Risoud forest' the choice of  Stradivarious), Germany for tuning planks of red beech ('Dehonit' for Steinway, Bluthner, Bechstein) and above all, the design of 'Renner Germany'(for the piano action, identical to Steinway).
We can actually reach out and boldly say that our piano is little different in design, materials, production and quality than Some of the top brands that you will pay far more heavily for.

Purchase, delivery and warranty information:

For these pianos we primarily offer online only trade purchase for a special reason.  This ads significantly to the saving with there being no costly store fronts or sales staff.  However, there are some important things to note with this kind of purchase arrangement:

1. Firstly, that for the Australian market, most of our Pianos are made to order, this means that your piano can sometimes take longer to arrive than 8 to 12 weeks.

2. This is as a trade purchase only and not a retail outlet sale, this means that when finalised, your piano becomes available at our storage and does not include delivery to your door.  Whilst you can pay for an extra service fee for a specialist piano remover to deliver and assemble your new piano as though you had purchased it from a shop, we actually recommend that your piano comes to you properly factory packed for you to handle with the assistance of a recommended tuner, this is usually the most cost effective way.  This is something we prefer to ensure complete safety in its arrival to you.

3. There is a full 15 year warranty that we back against manufacturer any defect.

4. Finally, we do provide all the assistance necessary to help things run smoothly and cost effectively.
Please feel free to contact us during business hours on 1300 883669 if there is anything you don't understand or for an informal chat.
